Crafting prompts effectively molds the output of AI. This process, known as prompt engineering, entails skillfully choosing precise words, phrases, symbols, and formats to optimize the outcome from AI models.

There is absolutely no doubt that Artificial Intelligence is our future. AI holds great power which can only be unlocked with effective prompting.Prompts are your input into the AI system to obtain specific results. A prompt can be as simple as a phrase or as complex as multiple sentences and paragraphs.

My favourite thing about AI prompting is that it doesnt require programming languages or software development skills. Anyone with good language skills and analytical thinking can learn prompt engineering.

What makes a good prompt?

One must is using clear and specific language. It can only act on your instruction so instead of saying "Write a story," specify the genre, characters, or even a starting sentence. The more details you provide, the better the model can understand your expectations.

Another helpful step is providing context and background information relevant to the task. Context goes a long way when it comes to accuracy.

Quality of Result ∝ Quality of Prompt

While the specific content of your prompt will vary depending on the task, there are some key components you could keep in mind, though these are obvious:

• Task (Required): This is the core instruction for the model. It could be a question you want answered, a creative writing prompt, or a specific action you want the model to take. Eg “ Write a poem on cats”
• System Instructions (Optional): Here, you can specify the model's style and tone or set limitations on its response. Eg “Write a funny poem on cats”
• Contextual Information (Optional): This is the background information that helps the model understand the situation. It can be text, code, or even data tables. The more context you provide, the better the model can tailor its response.Eg “Write a funny poem on cats for a playschool”
• Few-Shot Examples (Optional): Think of these as training examples. Provide a couple of instances of what a good response would look like, especially if you're aiming for a particular style or format. Eg “Write a funny poem on cats for a playschool like Fillet Of Sol”

Prompts For Images

When it comes to writing prompts for generating images (which is the case in most competitions) more factors come into consideration.

What was the task for language models becomes the image's main focus. System instructions become style modifiers (reference artistic styles like baroque or comic) and quality boosters (enhance aesthetics and details). Similarly, Shot exampls are replaced by image prompts (reference images as inspiration)

Basically the term changes but the jist remains the same.
